Transportation between the Boston and Providence:  The MBTA Commuter or Amtrak are probably the best bet for attendees of both conferences.  Below are links to the respective schedules:

PRICES:

  • Regional Amtrak service is about $14 one way
  • Commuter Rail is about $7.75 one way
  • Acela (Amtrak Express) service is about $34 one way
  • Peter Pan Bus $15.00 one way
  • Parking at the OMNI is $28/day with in/out privileges, $18/day, no in/out privileges

TIPS

  • The MBTA Schedule as well as the commuter rail from Back Bay or South Station runs all the way to TF Green on a limited basis.  This could be an option for folks coming in for both conferences, as they could get a flight into Providence and take the train to Boston, return to Providence for IFD&TC, then fly out of TF Green.

  • For attendees who fly into Boston and commute to Providence, you could take a Taxi from Logan Airport to South Station, then from there, get on either Amtrak or MBTA.  There is the Silver Line (Subway) through MBTA that runs from Logan to South Station, however it involves surface transportation (buses), then getting on a train.  With luggage, this might be an issue.  The same would be true for attendees attending the conference in Boston, then coming to Providence.  Best plan might be to take a Taxi to South Station from the venue, then take the train to Providence.

  • Once in Providence, the train station is only a short walk away from Omni Providence (formerly the Westin).  If you want a Taxi from the station is only a couple of dollars to the hotel.

PLANNING TO ATTEND AAPOR?:  May want to fly into Boston for AAPOR, then fly out of Providence after attending IDF&TC.

Newport RI is about 45 minutes away, mansions, ocean and other fun attractions.
